How Gratuity Is Calculated
The UAE Gratuity Calculator 2025 uses a simple gratuity calculation formula:
- Employees with 1-5 years of service get 21 days of salary per year.
- Employees with more than 5 years get 30 days of salary per year.
- Gratuity is always calculated on basic salary, not gross.

Free Zone & Mainland Gratuity Rules
Employee gratuity – also known as end of service benefit(EOSB) is governed by UAE Labour Law, but the rules differ slightly depending on whether your company is in the Mainland or a Free Zone.
Mainland Gratuity Rules
Mainland companies are directly regulated by the UAE Federal Labour Law (Decree-Law No.33 of 2021).
- Eligibility
- Employees become eligible after one full year of continuous service.
- Applies to all full time private sector employees under the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE)
Free Zone Gratuity Rules
Free Zones are semi-independent jurisdictions and some have their own employment laws – while others follow UAE Federal Labour Law.
- Eligibility
- Employee become eligible for gratuity after completing 1 full year of continuous service in the Free Zone company.
- In financial Free Zones like DIFC and ADGM, eligility starts after joining the DEWS plan and monthly employer contributions begin from the first month of employment.
